In March and April our reading group will be reading and discussing:
The Lost Gospel Q, by Marcus Borg (Borg has redacted from the Gospels of Matthew and Luke those passages believed to come from the Q source. The book is 118 pages with each page containing one or two of the sayings. It is therefore an easy quick read that can be read in about one hour for slow readers.)
We will also be reading The Gospel of Mark along with the commentary Meeting St. Mark Today-Understanding the Man, His Mission and His Message, by Daniel J. Harrington, SJ (John Grothues and I were privileged to have had Professor Harrington as one of our scripture instructors at Boston College. Interestingly, Father Harrington became interested in reading the Bible as a very young child. He suffered from stuttering. His mother told him that Moses had his brother Aaron speak for him because Moses stuttered. This awakened in the young Daniel an interest in reading the Bible. He not only became a scripture scholar, he also was chosen to be one of the contributing commentators for the 4th Edition the New Oxford annotated Bible (2010).
