For the month of November, we will read and discuss, Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why. The author, Bart D. Ehrman, tells the marvelous story of how the early Church documents were originally copied and transmitted. He shows how the early church, because it was small, not very wealthy, and sometimes persecuted, largely relied on amateur scribes to volunteer to copy the Greek manuscripts for their community. This led to errors and intentional changes. Mistakes and changes were common. In 1707 John Mills, who had spent 30 years studying over 100 Greek manuscripts, pointed out 30,000 variations.
