For the month of November, we will read and discuss, Misquoting Jesus: The Story Behind Who Changed the Bible and Why. The author, Bart D. Ehrman, tells the marvelous story of how the early Church documents were originally copied and transmitted. He shows how the early church, because it was small, not very wealthy, and sometimes persecuted, largely relied on amateur scribes to volunteer to copy the Greek manuscripts for their community. This led to errors and intentional changes. Mistakes and changes were common. In 1707 John Mills, who had spent 30 years studying over 100 Greek manuscripts, pointed out 30,000 variations. As you can imagine, the Biblical world exploded! To find out what happened next and how we got to today’s Bibles, buy the book and join us for a lively and convivial discussion. We meet by Zoom the first and third Thursdays of the month, from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. On November 3 we will discuss the Introduction to Chapter 3. And on November 17 we will discuss Chapter 4 to the end. Contact John Grothues (johngrothues@gmail.com) or John G. Ibáñez (johngibanez@gmail.com) for more information and the Zoom link.
